| After months of scouring the web, countless
Microsoft call tickets and nearing insanity, I found a simple way to backup
Document Libraries in Sharepoint. This is a task that is usually very cumbersome
using one of several lame methods one of which is the
SMIGRATE tool which I just recently found out does not work with SSL (of
course I have SSL on my server). This way you can simply drag and drop right in
My Computer on your Server.
HOW TO BACKUP SHAREPOINT
DOCUMENT LIBRARIES IN 3 SIMPLE
STEPS:
-
On the
Server hosting Sharepoint, right click on My Computer and click
Explore
-
Look
under MyNetwork Places. (the only place it will actually
show)...you will see Shared Documents on
Server (or something like that). These are all of your
Sharepoint document libraries complete with folder structure.
-
Highlight and drag to your backup drive on your local hard drive of the server
or network storage device.
Have not
found a way yet to include in a Windows backup because that item does not show.
Could not map a drive to the root of the Document Library either (would have
made it possible to include in the backup set), would not allow. Just need to
find a way to automate this process and it will be complete. If I find a way I
will post on this same page.
TO
COPY MULTIPLE DOCUMENTS TO A SHARED DOCUMENT LIBRARY:
Use the
same method above to copy multiple documents TO the Shared Documents
Library as opposed to slow Upload process in Sharepoint.
Hopefully
this document will save someone the frustration that I went through in trying to
find a solution for what I believe should be included with Sharepoint to begin
with. If you would like to contact me feel free to do so at :

If
you need to schedule your backup of Sharepoint you can use a great
product called WebDrive which
allows you to map a drive right to your Sharepoint Document Libraries
which can then be included in your Windows Backup. It has many other useful
functions but this is the one the I have found to be most practical. They offer
a 20 day free trial and to buy is only about $50. The only product I could find
that will expose the Sharepoint Document Library in a regular view without being
trapped in an SQL database.
