What is a Crossover Cable
A crossover cable (cross over cable) is
an ethernet cable wired in a configuration than a standard cable used to
connect two devices directly, rather than through a router or switch. For
example if you are connecting two computers together directly, you would use
a crossover cable. If you are connecting to a switch or router, you would
use what is called a straight through cable as this crossover function is
done internally. How to Make a Crossover Cable / Cross Over To make a crossover cable, you change the wiring pattern on one end of the CAT5 cable as shown
on the left. The other end of the cable is wired as you would a
regular straight through cable. |
